This course explores the development of Chinese architecture from ancient to modern times, examining the evolution of architectural styles, techniques, and cultural backgrounds. It focuses on the distinctive features of ancient Chinese architecture, including traditional wooden structures, palace and temple architecture, and garden design. It also covers the development of modern architecture, including the modernist movements in Chinese architecture and contemporary design trends. Through lectures, case studies, and site visits, students will gain a deep understanding of Chinese architectural styles and design principles, as well as the relationship between architecture and society, culture, and the environment.
