語言學是一門具有跨學科特性之學門，其理論和方法與哲學、數學、心理學、認知科學、腦神經學、電腦人工智慧、社會學、教育學等皆有密切關係。在著重科技發展的今天，語言學研究已經跨越了傳統文理分科的界限，我們可以形容它是人文科學中最接近自然科學和自然科學中最接近人文科學的學門 。本課程有下列幾項教學目標：
(1)提供學生對語言學所概括層面的基本暸解。
(2) 探討人類語言的本質引導學生探討語言結構、語言獲得，以及與語言運用等相 關之課題。包括了解構成語言的元素是什麼、什麼原則掌控語言的結構、什麼因素造成其結構、什麼造就人類可以獲得語言。
(3) 提高他們對語言現象、語言環境的意識及語言複雜性的敏感度。語言與文化之間存在什麼樣的關係 等等。
有關語言的議題及其探討的歷程是無止境的。本課程期許學習者對語言學有關領域產生探討興趣並由此對顯而易見之問題產生批判能力。課程內容包括討論幾項語言學次領域之議題。第一學期主要的內容為語言溝通/傳播之觀念 語音學/音韻學 構字學/型態學、語法學等。第二學期主要的內容為語法學 語意學 語用學及心理語言學。経由訓練學生分析不同的語言，包括他們自己的母語、第二或外國語［英語］等提升學生的觀察和分析能力。

The theme of linguistics is language, and the goal of linguistics is to understand more about language, in particular the nature of human language. Its missions include, but not limited, to gain an understanding of what components constitute a human language, what principles govern language, what factors shape it, what makes it possible for humans to acquire language, and what relationship exists between language and culture…etc. After the course overview and the introduction of the ideas of communication, four main sub-disciplinary subjects follow: pragmatics, semantics, syntax and morphology.
